Hairspray (Youtube Style) Audition - Seaweed J Stubbs

Here’s my audition for zac242’s online version of Hairspray! It’s not my best (I would probably clean up that last note in “Without Love” if I did it again) but I hope you like it! It includes the first verse of “Run and Tell That”, Seaweed’s dialogue in “Without Love”, and some of Seaweed’s part in “Without Love” (minus Penny). I hope you like it! 😀

Seaweed in Japan Japanology

Lifestyle No Comments »

As an island nation, Japan harvests numerous types of seaweed from all around the country, such as hijiki from the crevices of rocks by the sea, and kombu from the shallow waters off the coastline. Seaweeds—and seaweed-derived products—have been central ingredients of Japanese cuisine for thousands of years. Healthy, low-calorie, packed with fiber, minerals and flavor, Japanese seaweeds are used in everything from preparing dashi broth, to salads, soups and wrapping sushi rolls. Here’s a guide to the seaweeds that are commonplace in both Japanese restaurants and homemade Japanese meals, so that you can enjoy these delicious and nutritious alternatives to land-based green vegetables.

In this short video, we’re going to talk about the benefits of roasted seaweed.

What is seaweed?

Seaweed is a plant vegetable that can extract minerals from seawater and pull them into the plant. Roasted seaweed is a tasty little dehydrated wafer of seaweed that provides a good amount of nutrition.

Benefits of roasted seaweed:

• Trace minerals (iodine, selenium, zinc, iron, and a lot more)
• Vitamins
• Amino acids
• DHA/EPA (if you’re a vegetarian, seaweed is a great source of this)

Just be sure to find organic seaweed that comes from a clean environment. Also, if you have a small child, you can give them a little bit of seaweed, but they shouldn’t have a lot.

Sargassum (Seaweed), Jamaica

Lifestyle No Comments »

Sargassum is a type of open ocean brown algae; macroalgae (seaweed) (class Phaeophyceae).

⭐ Points of Interest:
0:20 Sargassum Seaweed
2:00 Sargassum Problem
03:53 Atlantic Ghost Crab burrow (hole)

The seaweed (Sargassum) was named by the Portuguese sailors who found it in the Sargasso Sea.

There are two species (S. natans and S. fluitans) commonly found in the Caribbean. It is only found in the Atlantic Ocean and provides refuge for migratory species.

They generally inhabit shallow water and coral reefs, and is widely known for its planktonic (free-floating) species.

This free-floating seaweed will not attach to the ocean floor and its movements depend solely on ocean currents.

It is an essential habitat for some species of fish and invertebrates and provides shelter and food to sea turtles, tuna and black jack fish.

Sargassum can also be extremely important to particular endangered and migratory species like sea turtles and whales.

Additionally, Sargassum plays a role in beach nourishment and shoreline stability, however, in excessive amounts it may result in beach erosion and an unpleasant odor.

During decomposition on the seashore there will be a smell, and it will also attract insects.

The influx of seaweed is believed to be related to increased accumulation in the Atlantic Ocean where the seaweed consolidates into large mats and is transported by ocean currents to the Caribbean.

Sargassum species are also cultivated and cleaned for use as an herbal remedy. Many Chinese herbalists prescribe powdered Sargassum — in doses of 0.5 gram dissolved in warm water and drunk as a tea.
