Reduce Stress and Burn Fat with Vitamin C- Thomas DeLauer

We’re always told that you can take vitamin C when you’re sick or when you got a cold or when you’ve got the flu and it’s going to help you fight the illness and get over it quicker, but no one’s ever really looking outside the box and looking at what other uses we can use vitamin C for, at least in the business world for those of us that are living a high-stress life and are trying to balance work, family, health, and all that.

First, let’s take a little look at what vitamin C does and exactly why it can be a benefit to you in this particular case. Before I dive into vitamin C, I have to talk a little bit about cortisol, which I talk about in a lot of my videos. I talk about how cortisol stimulates the release of adrenaline, epinephrine, norepinephrine, all those hormones and those basically neurotransmitters that are going to make you in that fight or flight response. They’re going to make you have to fight for something or run away and basically not be able to focus on the work that really needs to be focused on.

Well, what vitamin C does is it actually blunts the cortisol, or more so, it blunts the effect of cortisol on the body. Simply by taking some vitamin C in a mega dose, your body can fight the cortisol and b in a better position to make executive decisions and to make the right progress in the gym and at home and in the kitchen. When it comes down to psychology and how you feel and how your stress levels are and how you can focus, there’s even been a study out of Germany that took 1,000 test subjects, 500 of them, they were given a placebo, and the other 500 we’re given high doses of vitamin C.

Well, all 1,000 of those participants or those subjects were going into a public speaking arrangement. They were going into a position where they were going to be speaking in front of a lot of people, something that was going to be unnerving and stressful. The test subjects that took the vitamin C had markedly lower serum cortisol levels than the others. Now the other interesting thing is those that took vitamin C also had about a 30% reduction in their heart rate. What this means is that vitamin C had a direct correlation with reducing cortisol and reducing stress.
What does this mean to you and what can you do? Simply put, mega dose some vitamin C. Take 500 milligrams with every meal, and don’t worry about overdosing on it because vitamin C is water-soluble and whatever your body doesn’t use, your kidneys are just going to excrete out. If you can keep a constant flow of vitamin C through the body, you’re going to constantly be reducing that carbon footprint that cortisol is leaving on your body, and let’s face it, as someone that’s working all the time, someone that’s focusing on business, someone that’s trying to juggle all aspects of life, you are constantly stressed, and if you can combat it with a little bit of vitamin C, you’re going to be more focused in the office, able to focus on what needs to be focused on to get the job done and to get paid.

You’re going to have more energy, more energy in the gym, more energy to focus on what needs to be done in the gym. You’re going to feel better and not stressed out so you’re going to make better decisions at home in the kitchen. Most of all, you’re going to have that sense of well-being that’s going to skyrocket you into a new level of success where you feel confident, feel good about yourself, and never having to focus on that multitasking mode where you can’t get the job done.

A team of local marine researchers have taken their boat out to check on their seaweed farm.

The algae they planted just a few months ago has already grown into an impressive underwater plantation.

“You can see quite clearly – there’s quite a large crop of seaweed down here. The plants are somewhere between two and three meters long, so at this stage we’re very close to harvesting,” says marine biologist Freddie O’Mahony.

Seaweed farming is a growing business in Ireland. Demand for seaweed is increasing in sectors like healthcare and food.

The team is working on Mabfuel, an innovative European research project to study algae as a potential biofuel crop.

“Seaweed doesn’t require any fertilizer, there’s no space requirements either, like you would have with terrestrial crops – there’s a lot of competition with terrestrial crops for food. And it grows very fast – it’s fully grown in six months,” says Julie Maguire, Mabfuel project coordinator.

Some species of algae contain sugars that can be used to produce bioethanol. Others are rich in oil that can be converted into biodiesel. Researchers are trying to make such fuels commercially viable by improving the algae growth and oil content. Along with seaweed, they’re also studying micro-algae – a species that grows and accumulates oil quickly when cultivated in bioreactors.

“It would produce between 7 and 31 times more oil than the best terrestrial crop. That’s what all the studies have shown. OK, there’s a lot more to do, but you know, ten years ago people would have laughed at you if you had proposed to put seaweed-based oil in your car,” says Julie Maguire.

The biggest challenge is extracting the oil trapped in the seaweed and micro-algae cells. Researchers treat the algae powder with large amounts of solvents to increase the release of oil, but this method isn’t efficient on a large scale.

“Growing the algae is obviously the easy part – whether it’s macro-algae or micro-algae that you’re culturing, it’s quite simple to grow. The hard part is extracting the oil from the actual algea. We need to look at the cheapest way to do it, using the least amount of resources,” says micro-algae researcher Fiona Moejes.

A cheaper oil made of seaweed could revolutionise the emerging biofuel industry.

Green Biofuels Ireland produces 30.000 tonnes of biofuel each year by recycling used cooking oil, animal fats and other kinds of fats. The biofuel is blended with mineral diesel, making it more environmentally-friendly. Researchers are testing algae oil samples with industrial grade tools. For biofuel manufacturers, developing a new product at a competitive price would help them expand production.

“Of course, our industry is always interested in this new oil. Because we can convert any type of oil in this process to make biodiesel. And the greener it is, the better it is for ourselves,” says Joe Jewison, laboratory manager at Green Biofuels Ireland.

Algae grows almost anywhere, as long as it gets enough sunlight, water and carbon dioxide. It improves air quality by absorbing CO2 and reduces the negative effects of fish farming by filtering out excess nutrients that pollute waters in fisheries.

“The only environmental impact you have on seaweed farm is beneficial. It’s all positive. There’s nothing negative about a seaweed farm. I’m not saying that they will clean up the sea completely, but they do help to clean up the excess nutrients in the sea. So I like to see the seaweed as a sort of a mop. A nutrient mop,” says Freddie O’Mahony.

“I’m chewing it. It’s quite tasty. Would you like to try some?”, she adds with a smile.

-Facial exercises are the most effective thing you can do to slim down your neck. They give the muscles in your face and neck a good workout, so you can finally kiss that double chin goodbye!

Step 6: The next exercise would be to raise your chin upwards to the right side and start jutting the chin for a few seconds.

Step 7: Hold the position there and begin to open and close your mouth. Do this for 10 repetitions and come back to the center and relax.

Step 8: Similarly turn your chin upwards to left side. Jut your chin for a few seconds and hold the position. Start opening and closing your mouth for about 10 repetitions and then come to the center and relax. With this we come to the end of the double chin exercises.

In a response to a TV episode on the show Royal Pains, I analyze the claims that a high fat diet will necessarily lead to the pain associated with gout and gout attacks. The conventional wisdom seems often analogous to popular, but wrong cholesterol theorem that dietary cholesterol leads to increased cholesterol in the blood. Is the popular theory right?

What is Gout?
Gout is a form of arthritis that occurs when abnormally high levels of uric acid build up in the body, causing crystals to form in joints. The crystals cause sudden, severe attacks of joint pain and swelling. Uric acid is a substance that is normally released by the kidneys when the body breaks down waste products called purines. When the kidneys are no longer able to flush uric acid out of the body properly, it crystallizes and accumulates around the joints.

If you look at this table of high purine foods , you’ll see that beef, lamb, pork, plus “white” meat chicken and turkey – all allowable on the Atkins diet – are not high purine foods, they are medium purine. And that fruits and vegetables, many of which are allowable, on the Ongoing Weight Loss phase of the Atkins diet, are usually medium or low purine. Moreover, a large study found that purines-wealthy vegetables do not increase the risk of getting gout (7).

Today we will initiate a discussion on something that I have lied to you about for a very long time. This will be as simple as possible.

We will not only consider the informal definition but rather also look at the mathematical understandings behind why we call these asymptotic “bounds”.

Again, we care about this because the true colors of an algorithm can only be seen in the asymptotic nature of runtime and space.

So imagine this, we have these components:

A function T(n) which is the actual number of comparisons, swaps…just…resources an algorithm needs in terms of time or space. It is a function of n. When n changes, T(n) changes.

Our job is to classify behaviour.

A bound O( f(n) ) is the function that we choose to apply for the specific bounding.

The definitions, an example:
“T(n) is O(f(n))” iff for some constants c and n0, T(n) less than or equal to c * f(n) for all n greater than or equal to n0

In English…this means…we can say that f(n) is a fundamental function that can upper bound T(n)’s value for all n going on forever.

We have an infinite choice for what c is.

Our constant does not change behavior, it changes “steepness” of the graph.

We are saying that…if I declare f(n) as an upper bound, then I can find a constant c to multiply against f(n) to ALWAYS always always keep T(n) beneath my c * f(n)…T(n) will never beat c * f(n) for infinite n values…hence asymptotic bounding.

If we can’t find this c then f(n) fails as an upper bound because it does not satisfy the asymptotic requirement.

So why are constants dropped?

Theta (Θ): This is a “tight” or “exact” bound. It is a combination of Big

For example:
An algorithm taking Ω(n log n) takes at least n log n time, but has no upper limit.

An algorithm taking Θ(n log n) is far preferential since it takes at least n log n (Ω(n log n)) and no more than n log n (O(n log n)).

Big Omega (Ω): Lower bound on an algorithm’s runtime.

Little Bounds

Little o: Upper bound on an algorithm’s runtime but the asymptotic runtime cannot equal the upper bound.

There is no little theta (θ).

Little Omega (ω): Lower bound on an algorithm’s runtime but the asymptotic runtime cannot equal the lower bound.

If you can’t get an exact upper bound, try lower bounding (although it is less useful to be honest).
